2nd OPTICON Instrumentation School
This school has been postponed due to the outbreak of corona virus (COVID-19). We hope to reschedule it to a later time. You will find information on the new time for this school on this website when we have confirmed the plans.
Are you interested in astronomical instrumentation? Do you want to know how an instrumentation project is realised? The second OPTICON Instrumentation School will be organised September 16-25, 2020 at INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera in Milan with the theme 'Integral Field Spectroscopy'. In this school you will do a 'Phase A' study of an integral field spectrograph.
This school follows the model of Alpbach school in Space instrumentation, but now applied to ground-based instrumentation. You will plan an instrument in small groups led by an experienced tutor. In the early part of the school the mornings are dedicated to lectures and the afternoons to group work. Later during the school week the students will concentrate on group work. In the end all the groups will present their Phase A study.
OPTICON will cover the accommodation and lunches in Milano. Additionally, some travel support can be provided. The application deadline is on Thursday April 30 (23:59 UT), and you can apply to this school. The applicants will be informed about the selection in the end of May.
We are monitoring the development of the situation with corona virus (COVID-19) very closely and will follow the recommendations from the authorities. We will update this website with the information relevant to the school.
